Cycling

With a strong performance at the regional championship races in Davis, Calif. last weekend, the UCSD cycling team qualified four members to participate in the national championships in Vermont on May 11.

In the criterium event Saturday, Tona Rodgriguez sprinted to a third-place finish in the men’s C category, and Matt Sadauckas overcame a bad crash in which he totaled his bike, to finish third in the A division.

On Sunday, first-year rider Geoff Rapoport showed strong teamwork skills with Sadauckas when they finished in first and second place, respectively, in the men’s A division 75-mile road race, a full five minutes ahead of the third-place finisher.

With their solid efforts at the regionals, Rapoport and Sadauckas, along with Laura Resor and Ramlah Nehring, each earned trips to the nationals championship races.

SAILING

Last weekend, the UCSD sailing team grabbed eighth place in the Pacific Coast Championships in Keehi Lagoon, Hawaii. Sailing in 80-degree weather and heavy winds, R.J. Ward and Kimberly Leung competed in the A division, while Christ Nilsen and Erica McClure sailed in the B division.
