Grievances Delay Election Results

A total of 24 grievances were filed, with several thrown out immediately for insufficient evidence. United was the only slate to receive no grievances. The rest were divided between FLOW with the FENG, Triton’s Choice, Keep it Real and One Voice, with 12 grievances between the latter two alone.

A judicial board will hear every grievance and give a speaker representing the slate a chance to defend the actions under scrutiny. If the judicial board determines that a grievance is valid, they will reprimand the slate in question by either compelling them to make a public apology, or by disqualifying the whole slate from the election.

The slate One Voice faced a complaint about the location of their chalk campaigns, but insisted that they washed away the drawing after they were made aware of the problem. The judicial board eventually dismissed the grievance.

Keep it Real also heard at least five grievances, including one that involved a campaign poster displayed within 50 feet of a polling station.

The A.S. elections committee argued that this was a direct violation of the election bylaws, while Andy Buselt of Keep it Real pointed out that the fraternity that requested the poster had unintentionally moved their booth into the campaign-free zone.

The slate was ordered to give a public apology in the form of a written statement on their Facebook page.

No grievances were filed during the 2012–2013 elections.

Results for the election have been delayed indefinitely.
