Is it scarier to live next door to a cop or to Samuel L.
Jackson? Unfortunately, for the Mattsons, an interracial newlywed couple, they
get a combination of both. In “Lakeview Terrace,” the husband and wife move
into “Truman Show” suburbia, only to have their bliss bubble popped after a
disturbing introduction to their new neighbor, Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson)
— a bitter, slightly pervy peeping Tom determined to eradicate them from the
development by any means necessary. When all efforts to form an amicable
relationship fail, Chris (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa (Kerry Washington) turn to
the Los Angeles Police Department, only to find that their archenemy is in fact
a cop with criminal immunity. Whether Turner’s motives are racially based or
more likely acts of deranged psychosis, the movie will undoubtedly require far
too much eye gouging to find out if, when they fight the law, the law wins.
