Summer Movie Preview: ""Superbad""

When was the last time a truly good quality teen movie came out? My wager is on “”American Pie,”” but it could very well be trumped by “”Superbad,”” the comedy from “”Knocked Up”” director Judd Apatow (who claims the producer’s chair this round) and co-writer and co-star Seth Rogen.

Jonah Hill, another “”Knocked Up”” alum, joins Michael Cera (“”Arrested Development””) as the kids try to reclaim their cool – if they ever had any – by throwing a mammoth kegger to score chicks and cope with high school’s final hours. Foul humor prevails, of course, but knowing Rogen and Apatow, they’ve probably found a way to inject it with the realism and honesty we’ve come to expect. Currently a little-known project, “”Superbad”” is about to pick up steam, and should provide a nostalgic escape for those of us who pine for the days of gym dances and cafeteria food. Aug. 31.
