Summer Movie Preview: Red-Eye

Director Wes Craven — famed for slasher flicks like “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and the “Scream” trilogy — is putting that order of fake blood on hold and settling for a hefty dose of suspense. In his new thriller, “Red-Eye,” an overnight flight to Miami becomes a terrifying sleepless prison for a young woman. Lisa Reisert (versatile “mean girl” Rachel McAdams). Already afraid of flying, she is further traumatized by the charismatic Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy, the pretty-eyed scrawny guy who chased zombies in “28 Days Later”), who coerces her into aiding him in the murder of a rich businessman. If Lisa fails to comply with Jackson’s demands, he will have an assassin kill her father, Joe Reisert (powerhouse Brian Cox). With no means of escape and no available assistance, the desperate Lisa must find a way to get out of her plight. Skilled direction and an able cast ought to muster a climactic resolution.
