A vote in favor of Proposition 61 is a vote in favor of more runaway spending by our state government. Without a built-in repayment mechanism for the proposition’s $750 million bond — for example, a one-percent sales tax increase — we run the risk of inordinately burdening future Californians. Despite the help it might bring to our UCSD Children’s Hospital, among other facilities, it must be questioned — why are children’s hospitals being singled out, especially when all hospitals could potentially benefit? Because of this inconclusiveness compounded with the plan’s inherent drawbacks, voters should vote “no” on Proposition 61, in hopes that a future proposition will do a better job.
