On-campus Sun God specials offered

Looking for something to do on campus before Sun God? Three facilities offer very different activities and atmospheres for the UCSD-bound this Friday.

Round Table Pizza in Price Center attracts a large crowd each year, and this year will no doubt be similar. Music, drinks and long lines liken the atmosphere to that of a club or concert.

“”It gets very crazy,”” said Donna, manager of Round Table.

In addition to offering those over 21 a place to drink alcohol and socialize on campus, Round Table is offering $5 off any too large one-topping pizzas as well as $1 off any sandwich. But with added security to compensate for the incoming crowd, don’t expect to be drinking if you’re underage. Round Table is also not offering any drink specials as they do not wish to encourage drinking at Sun God. People drink at Sun God?

Porter’s Pub in the Student Center will be offering enticing specials this Friday. At least three types of beer will be on sale for $3, including Bass and Arrogant Bastard. Appetizers and sandwiches will be similarly on sale, and they will be barbecuing all day. For entertainment, turntables will be present as well as an open mic in the vein of the Poetry SLAMMS and open mic nights regularly held at Porter’s Pub. For those in the Student Center neck of the woods, Porter’s Pub seems to be the best bet for on-campus drinking, dining and entertainment.

On the south side of campus, the Che Cafe offers a much different atmosphere and an alternative to those not interested in attending the Sun God festivities. Indie bands Cinama Eye, Audition, C is for Cookie and the Video Armageddon are playing for $5. The show starts at 8 p.m. and would likely offer a change of pace to the general madness surrounding Sun God. As always, the Che Cafe offers a low-cost, healthy vegan and vegetarian cuisine.

Whatever you end up doing Sun God day, UCSD’s on-campus facilities will cater to various tastes.
