Women’s soccer reserve forward Lindsey Treankler was named the Brine California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 16 to Sept. 22.
“”My teammates were all really excited for me,”” Treankler said after hearing the announcement. “”I was really excited, and my parents were really excited.””
During that week, Treankler provided UCSD with a spark coming off the bench, entering all three of the Tritons’ games as a substitute. She scored four goals in UCSD’s victories over Grand Canyon, Sonoma State and San Francisco State.
On her birthday, Sept. 17, Treankler scored twice on headers, leading Tritons to a 3-0 shutout at Grand Canyon. On Sept. 20, the forward, who was a red shirt last season out of La Mesa, Calif., scored the game-winning goal against Sonoma State in the 83rd minute of the game.
To place the exclamation point on her week, Treankler helped seal the deal with the Tritons’ second goal of their 2-0 win against San Francisco State.
Treankler leads UCSD with four goals. The Tritons, now 6-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and 7-1 overall, will enjoy the enthusiasm that freshman Treankler brings off the bench.
“”I love coming off the bench,”” Treankler said. “”I would like to start, but it’s the coach’s decision. I just try to make the most of it.””
Treankler and her role as a substitute should prove to be a crucial point in UCSD’s quest for a third-straight Division II national championship.
