Ski&Snowboard

The UCSD alpine ski and snowboard team traveled to Mammoth last weekend for their season’s first event.

UCSD’s women set out dominating the competition. Freshman skier Sierra Bourne blazed past her opponents, taking a first-place finish in giant slalom 10 seconds before her nearest competitor. Elena Sreedharan and Ann Leonard placed 10th and 12th, respectively. In snowboard giant slalom, UCSD’s Amy Sage took second with Biliana Veleva coming in third and Nicole Roebuck taking 14th. Male performances were marked by skier Tom Christensen nabbing sixth and snowboarders Mirek Knopp and Peter Butcher finishing a close fifth and sixth places.

Monday’s events consisted of boardercross for the snowboarders and skiercross for the skiers. While the men’s teams did not place, the women were quite successful. For snowboarders, Sage took first with Amanda Vlasveld taking seventh and Veleva securing eigth. For the skiers, Anne Spohr took second place followed by Elena Sreedharan in third with Danielle Crockett taking fourth. No other school placed as many women as UCSD in the boardercross.
