“Toothache,” a recently-released single off of Searows’ forthcoming EP, is an ode to loss, moving on, and the process of time molding softness into callousness. In the chorus, the singer-songwriter Alec Duckart ponders asking a person from his past about what they might think of him now, but ultimately decides posing such a question is both ridiculous and too frightening. Still, the desire to confront the shadow of his past persists. He won’t admit it though; he pretends he doesn’t care to know. The truth is too daunting: if he’s not as sweet or as good as he once was, the answer could only bring hurt. He sings, “I could ask you who you think I am / But I don’t really want to find out.”
