4:37 p.m. UCSD wins it! With a final score of 84-79, the Tritons will advance to the final for the second year in a row. They’ll face No. 4 seed Hawai’i at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
No. 2 seed UC San Diego women’s basketball (22-8, 17-3 Big West) will open postseason play against No. 3 seed UC Davis (23-8, 15-5 Big West) at the Big West Championship semifinals at 2:30 p.m. in Henderson, Nevada.
Four months of grueling competition have led to this moment, with the Tritons looking to fend off the Aggies and defend their Big West title. The Tritons earned a double-bye — and a share of their first-ever Big West regular-season title — with a 72-65 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. UCD downed UC Riverside 70-59 in last night’s quarterfinal game, paving the way for a rematch between the Aggies and the Tritons. UCSD, which suffered a heartbreaking 88-80 triple-overtime loss at Davis last month, dropped the season series against the Aggies.
It’s Friday, March 13, and the Tritons will hope to make it UCD’s unlucky day. Stay tuned for The UCSD Guardian’s live coverage of the Tritons’ Big West semifinal clash.
