UC San Diego men’s basketball (19-9, 9-7 Big West) hosts Cal Poly (12-16, 8-8 Big West) on Saturday for Senior Night at LionTree Arena. Currently sitting in seventh in the Big West standings, the Tritons enter the final week of the regular season eager for wins in their last four games to maintain their momentum heading into the Big West Championship in Henderson, Nevada.
The matchup also carries a revenge angle. Cal Poly edged UCSD 67-65 in San Luis Obispo on Jan. 1, stealing the lead late to hand the Tritons a narrow conference loss.
Offensively, UCSD has leaned on balance and efficiency all season, with freshman guard Hudson Mayes emerging as a key scoring threat over the last five games. Mayes scored a career-high 24 points against UC Riverside and put up 17 points in Saturday’s win at UC Irvine.
However, the Tritons will have their hands full defensively, as they prepare to contain the top scorer in the Big West: sophomore guard Hamad Mousa, who enters the week averaging 20.2 points per game for Cal Poly.
After Senior Night, UCSD will close the regular season on the road at Cal State Fullerton on March 5 and at UC Santa Barbara on March 7.
