UC San Diego swimming will dive into the Big West Championships in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday. Last year, in UCSD’s Big West championship debut, UC Santa Barbara took home both the men’s and women’s championship titles. The Triton women’s team took second place — only 29 points behind the Gauchos — winning eight titles and collecting 19 podium finishes. The Triton men, meanwhile, made it to the podium in four events on the final night of competition. One Triton to look out for this week is junior Asia Kozan, who holds four Big West records and was last season’s Big West Swimmer of the Year. On the men’s side, sophomore Hunter Cehelnik has been named Big West Athlete of the Week twice this season. Kozan, Cehelnik, and their UCSD teammates will be sprinting to overtake the reigning champions and claim their spot on the podium’s top step.
