UC San Diego softball (0-0, 0-0 Big West) will take on the Wagner Seahawks (0-0, 0-0 NEC) at home on Thursday, the first of a two-game series in the La Jolla Invitational. Both teams come to the plate looking to start off their seasons with a win.
Last year, the Seahawks finished fifth in the Northeast Conference with a 15-26 overall record, just missing a tournament berth. The Tritons, meanwhile, ended last season with a 16-32 record, going 13-14 in conference play. UCSD finished sixth in the Big West, securing a ticket to the Big West Championship tournament, but fell to eventual conference champion UC Santa Barbara. The Tritons will look to improve upon last year’s dismal 3-18 start with a win against Wagner that will hopefully set the tone for the rest of the season.
