Hyperpop singer-songwriter Slayyyter may have dominated the stage at UC San Diego’s Sun God Festival last spring, but she still has yet to break into the mainstream. Despite her cohesive, candy-coated visual identity and a catalog stacked with cult-favorite hits, Slayyyter remains sentenced to obscurity in the “Khia Asylum.”
However, her latest October 2025 release, “CRANK,” is a possible jailbreak. The track is pure energy, featuring her usual electronic beats, loud moaning, and the sexy, feminine energy reminiscent of her earlier work. With unhinged yet clever lines like “I get so gay off that tequila” and “Richard, we should link later,” Slayyyter leans fully into camp without losing her pop instincts. It’s the kind of track that demands to be played at full volume and the perfect song to scream along to when the stress of midterms hits.
“WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA,” Slayyyter’s third album, is set to be released on March 27. Will this upcoming album be the key to releasing Slayyyter from the “Khia Asylum”? The jury is still out — but until that verdict is in, I’ll keep cranking it.
