In the 2008 U.S. News & World Report survey, UCSD
graduate education programs upheld top national rankings — UCSD was one of the
few universities to rank both engineering and medical schools ranked within the
top 15.
The Jacobs School of Engineering was ranked 11th among the
nation’s 191 engineering schools. The UCSD School of Medicine was ranked 14th
for research medical schools and fifth among the nation’s public schools of
medicine. Additionally, graduate programs in the social sciences and arts and
humanities continued to be regarded as being among the best in the nation.
The rankings are based on expert opinions about program
quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s
faculty, research and students. Data was taken from surveys conducted last fall
of more than 1,200 programs and 14,000 academics and professionals.
