“Days of Glory” – Landmark La Jolla Village

When World War II broke out, few in the French-controlled regions of North Africa realized that they, too, would be thrust into the global conflict. No sooner do the bombs start falling than four Algerian men, who consider themselves French citizens, enlist in the army only to discover that the French officers view them as second-class and expendable. This sets the stage for the exciting, yet enlightening and emotionally stirring, “Days of Glory,” one of the nominees for Best Foreign Language film at last weekend’s Oscars. Not only is it a film about the struggles of war, but also the untold story a group of people who defied the odds — from both enemy and ally. Opens March 3. (CM)
