Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sept. 28 at Soma, $30
It’s a rare college student who doesn’t like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This probably played a part in their booking at RIMAC Arena this fall — however, for some incomprehensible reason, the show was recently booted to underage punkster venue Soma instead (definitely the biggest thing they’ve seen over there in ages).
Consider this an opportunity to spend some quality time in Western San Diego while staying loyal to the reigning king of all indie-pop bands.
Come hear iconic singer Karen O’s siren-red lipstick wail and the band’s rich, texturally embellished charm-rock, celebrating what will one day probably define your generation’s youth. And while most bands that receive that kind of honor don’t necessarily deserve it, the YYYs are an exception: We all know and love them because they’ve reinvented that good, head-bobbing, old-fashioned kind of rock’n’roll.
See Karen and her men impress the hell out of those little punks at Soma, if only to be able to tell your grandchildren about it. Tickets purchased for the RIMAC show are still good at the door. (SW)
