This dark, edgy film, directed by Michael Bay, ought to give viewers a break from typical light-hearted summer fare. Ewan McGregor plays a resident of a seemingly utopian but completely sequestered island in the mid-21st century. Like everyone living in this controlled environment, he hopes to be chosen to go to The Island — reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. However, he soon discovers that he and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones whose only purpose is to provide “spare parts” for their original human counterparts. Realizing it is only a matter of time before he is “harvested,” Lincoln makes a daring escape with a fellow resident, played by Scarlett Johansson. Expect lots of action and drama from Bay, who also directed “Armageddon” and “Pearl Harbor.”
