The local punk powerhouse Rocket From The Crypt will take the stage at San Diego’s newest concert venue, The Scene.
The Scene has been open since late January and provides a steady stream of DJs and musical acts for the restless under-21 youth of the greater San Diego area.
Rocket should be just the band to bust The Scene wide open because it will easily be the biggest act to play the venue. Yet, the band recently signed to Vagrant Records, which has launched many great punk and indie-pop sensations.
Rocket From the Crypt has become a sensation in and of itself, especially in the San Diego area. In a recent readers poll in San Diego’s SLAMM magazine, Rocket From the Crypt was voted the No. 1 San Diego band of all time. This is a distinct privilege when one considers that just recently, bands such as Blink-182, P.O.D. and Fenix TX have come out of the area.
While not everyone will agree with the polls results, the fact that Rocket From The Crypt is a major influence on the local music scene is undeniable. This influence is due in large part to a unique punk sound and an outstanding stage presence. The band’s show will precede the release of its new album, “”The Group,”” which comes out March 6. The band has no other scheduled dates right now, but a larger tour will undoubtedly follow the album’s release.
Opening for the band will be The Locusts and Thee Corsairs. The show will be an excellent opportunity to get to know a band that has had a considerable impact on the San Diego music scene for more than a decade. It will also be an excellent chance to check out The Scene for future reference.
