Women’s Ultimate

The UCSD women’s ultimate disc team traveled to North Carolina for two competitions over spring break.

March 24-25 featured the College Eastern Tournament in Wilmington, showcasing a number of top schools from around the nation.

In getting to the quarterfinals, UCSD downed notable schools such as Duke University, the University of Carolina and Tufts University.

The quarterfinals saw UCSD take on the defending national champions Carlton College, defeating the champs.

In the semifinals, UCSD faced Tufts again and the outcome was the same: another win.

The finals featured a matchup against the University of Georgia. UCSD played tough, but came up short to claim second.

The second competition for UCSD was March 31-April 1 at Greenville to compete in the Ultimax Tournament.

UCSD was dominant, defeating the College of William and Mary, North Carolina State and Haveford 15-0 each outing.

In quarterfinals, UCSD vanquished Eastern Carolina University.

In the semifinals, UCSD downed Brown University 14-12.

The finals were canceled due to rain.

Next up are sectionals, regionals and nationals.

Cycling Team

The UCSD cycling team had a great showing at an event in Lancaster, Calif. over spring break.

Four teams from UCSD competed.

The individual team trial was dominated by the men’s A team, which was led by Mathew Sadauckas, who took first. Teammate Peter Knudsen finished second, Dirk Van Ulden finished seventh and Chris Del Nagro took ninth.

Additionally, the men’s A team finished third overall in the team time trial.

The women’s A team finished first in the team time trial. Esther Merki led the way with first place and teammate Megan Anderson was close behind in second. Sabrina Morris finished 10th.

Both the women’s and the men’s B teams would not be outdone by their A team counterparts.

The men’s B team finished first in the team time trial.

For the women, Michelle Wedemeyer took third and Angel Park finished fifth for the B individual races.

Next up for UCSD cycling are the championships on April 28-29 at Cal Poly Pomona.

Women’s Rugby

The UCSD women’s rugby team fell in an upset at Claremont College this weekend The loss came as a shock to UCSD.

Both teams came into the game with neither dominating, and as play continued, the ball went back and forth between the two teams with neither gaining much of an advantage.

After some tough play, Claremont finally broke through to take a slight advantage and a win.

Despite the loss, UCSD had good performances by Jolene Sawyer, Melissa Ho and Abby George.

The women’s rugby team finished the season fourth in the league.

Next up for the team is the Santa Barbara Tournament April 28-29.

Dance Sport

The UCSD Dancesport team headed to Sin City, Las Vegas, this weekend for the annual Southwest Regional Competition.

UCSD finished in second place owing to strong leadership from coaches Peter and Amy Edwards.

The competition did not start out on the right foot, with little warm-up time, but UCSD held fast.

Janelle Bouey and Jonathan Marion took first in the university level novice rhythm category. Marion also took first in the university level novice Latin category with partner Renee Link.

In the adult-amateur novice Latin category, John Stillwagen and Pamela Thomas took third.

UCSD has been having a great year. It finished in second place at the UC Irvine California Open and first at the Day by the Shores Competition.

Three more competitions remain for UCSD Dancesport. This weekend, the team travels to the city by the bay for the San Francisco Open.
