Baseball Team Falls to USD

The UCSD baseball team fell to crosstown rival University of San Diego 13-8 at home Tuesday.

The USD Toreros exploded in the fifth inning for six runs and again in the sixth inning for four runs.

The Tritons tried to rally by notching five runs in the ninth inning, but it was too little too late as USD held on for the victory.

Toreros pitcher Greg Simonetti picked up the win.

The Tritons also used a barrage of arms, and James Sanders took the loss.

UCSD was not without offensive firepower. David Hawke went 4-4 and Ryan Larson scored three times with three hits. Eric Thorpe and Chad Addison each had two RBI’s.

Tony Perez was a madman for USD, driving in five RBI’s.

The loss makes UCSD’s record 10-21.

Next up for the Tritons are two road games, played today and tomorrow at Cal State Los Angeles, both at 7 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday against Cal State Los Angeles at noon.
