Alfie” may only be remembered as another forgettable Jude Law film, but the soundtrack has been receiving a lot of attention, including a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. While the movie was a remake, the soundtrack features original tracks cut by Mick Jagger and former Eurythmics songwriter Dave Stewart.
Jagger may seem like a peculiar choice to create a musical score, but who better to capture the mood of a film about a womanizer trying to find meaning in his life than someone who had the experience?
The disc doesn’t exactly play like a soundtrack. On its own, it is a collection of simple folk and blues tracks that ease the mind, the type of CD that could play in the background for hours without bothering anybody. However, each song has a reflective and atmospheric feeling to it, conveying an emotion listeners can identify with.
Joss Stone adds some soul, appearing on several of the more memorable tracks, including a remake of the original title song “Alfie” and “Lonely Without You,” a good Christmas song for those depressed during the holiday season. Nothing to blow your mind away here, just quality music to relax to.
