Kicking off the NSSA (National Scholastic Surfing Association) season was this past weekend’s surf competition at Black’s Beach. Competitors from all across California–including our very own UC San Diego Surf Team–were met with massive, unruly waves and attempted to make the most out of their fifteen-minute heats. UCSD showed out on their home turf, the team placing third overall in the competition with members Makena Burke (sophomore) placing first in the women’s competition and Trent Webster (graduate student) placing third in the men’s longboarding competition.
