Whether priming for the plunge into postgraduation life or packing for summer plans abroad, UC San Diego students are looking back on a vibrant spectrum of moments from the past year. For the final episode of Trolley Takes, The UCSD Guardian’s Features section hopped on the Blue Line trolley to ask students what was one core memory they made this year. Here are their answers:
“Honestly, probably the first day I was here. I went to the beach, and immediately after I heard they were having a bonfire for transfer students, I went by myself and then ended up meeting the person that’s now my roommate.” — Dara, fourth-year transfer student.
“I am in a sorority, and I picked up a little, and that was really, really rewarding. She’s so sweet; I love her.” — Emmy, third-year student.
“When I was on the trolley, there was a guy who was dressed up as a wizard. He had the cape and the hat, but he was in his underwear, and I don’t know … he just got on the trolley. It was one of those stops where both doors open, so he just stepped onto the trolley to get to the other side of the road, and it was really funny. He just stepped on for a second, and then he was gone.” — Abel, first-year student.
“Hanging out with my club, [American Medical Student Association], spending a lot of time with them, going on side quests, and eating a lot.” — Rayyan, fourth-year student.
“Playing flag football without knowing how to play flag football. It’s a core memory because I remember a woman charging at me, and I forgot which way I was supposed to run.” — Nyla, fourth-year student.
“I’ll say the people I’ve met. I know a lot of people say UCSD is kind of socially dead, but to be honest, you just gotta put yourself out there and the connections I made within, like, the past year are definitely really valuable to me, so I hold them through my heart.” — Kennet, third-year student.
“Sun God this year. I was in Dominic Fike’s 0.01% top listeners and so I feel like I just manifested it, and he was the headliner so that was absolutely a great experience.” — Owen, fourth-year student.
