Senator project updates
Second-year Campus-Wide Sen. Kaleb Truchan proposed extended funding for the site of the Makerspace and its workers. He also raised safety concerns about this year’s Sun God Festival, including reports of crowd crushing and line-hopping.
A.S. President William Simpson said that he met with interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Life Andrew Hua and A.S. Associate Vice President of Food and Housing Arya Patel in the past week to secure an annual $100,000 guarantee in academic funding for the Triton Food Pantry. Simpson stated he is also working toward an extended goal of $300,000.
Simpson also stated that he was committed to creating more S parking spots on campus. Additionally, he met with Josh Kavanagh, the assistant vice chancellor for transportation and activation, and discussed an incremental parking ticketing system in which parking tickets would accrue in value over time to a maximum fee of $65. Simpson stated that Kavanagh was more agreeable to this system over cutting fees in general.
Constitutional bylaw amendments
Following questions, the Senate voted on several amendments to the A.S. constitution. The department of student life bylaws and department of essential needs bylaws were tabled to be voted on in the Week 10 A.S. meeting, and the office of the Senate bylaw passed unanimously in a vote of 21-0-0.
Third-year Campus-Wide Sen. Daniel Leung Sitanggang introduced an “Office of the Senate” to the A.S. constitution which introduces a speaker petition for the purpose of “providing support to the work of the Senate.” Sitanggang also shared insight into the amendment, saying that the speaker of the Senate role would both condense and clarify the standing A.S. constitution. It passed 19-0-1.
