UC San Diego softball (17-22, 7-11 Big West) will play the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine (20-17, 12-6 Big West) at home in a three-game series starting on Friday and ending with a doubleheader on Saturday — the Tritons’ Senior Day. The Tritons and the Rainbow Wahine met last season for a three-game series, when the Tritons won the opener but dropped the last two matches.
Sitting sixth in the Big West, the Tritons currently qualify for postseason play. Tritons like junior first baseman Zara Wasserman — who has the third most runs on the team and second most putouts in the Big West — will be looking to continue their dominance in conference play. With nine conference games ahead before the end of the regular season on May 2, the Tritons seek to improve upon last year’s finale, when they finished sixth overall after an early second-round exit. The upcoming series against Hawai’i — which presently ranks fourth in the Big West — is an opportunity for the Tritons to prove they are ready for postseason play.
