Chief personnel officer interviews
On Thursday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m., around 20 members of the Associated Student Senate held public interviews for the vacant A.S. chief personnel officer position. A.S. Fellowship Director and fourth-year Sofia Earley and Campus-Wide Senator and third-year Moazzma Chaudhary were interviewed for the role.
The CPO oversees mediation between A.S. members and manages new-member operations such as hiring and training. The position became vacant following the resignation of former CPO Ziad Elbanany, who graduated in Fall Quarter 2025.
The candidates were interviewed by A.S. President William Simpson and members of the A.S. Senate. There was also a 30-minute section for public questions. Questions for Earley and Chaudhary focused on conflict resolution, plans for future A.S. programming, and how candidates will manage their administrative duties.
The A.S. Senate Hiring Oversight Committee plans to confirm the incoming CPO in Week 3. The appointed CPO will be shared via a story post on A.S.’s Instagram.
Additional AS meeting comments
During public comment, fourth-year Golsa Rahbari and second-year Cameron Ettefagh shared their concerns about the campus’s response to the crises in Iran and Tehran, respectively. Rahbari and Ettefagh emphasized their disappointment with their peers and the University’s administration for their lack of vocal solidarity.
AS art grant update
Seventh College Senator Kieran Matsuoka-Nguyen proposed acquiring an A.S. art supply grant. The Senate did not specify how the funds would be distributed. Matsuoka-Ngyuen also pitched upcoming art events, including a diversity, equity, and inclusion exhibition to focus on visibility and support for students under refugee and asylum status.
