Raul's Shack

If you’re on your way to Moonlight beach in Encinitas, Raul’s Shack, walking distance from the water, is the place to pick up some lunch or dinner before catching a few waves.

Raul’s is exactly what its name implies — a shack. There are only a few tables under a connected overhang and a few more outside. But, as this eatery mostly attracts locals who are on the go, there is usually room to relax. Similarly, Raul’s parking lot is comprised of four or five extremely tight and ill-placed spots. Nevertheless, as most customers are on foot, there is usually a space or two available at any given time.

The extensive menu ranges from about $2 for a taco to $7 combination plates, and you can expect to find any Mexican-oriented dish that might come to mind. Burritos of the California, carnitas, carne asada and vegetarian variety are all available. Most meat burritos are comprised of fresh, (non-greasy) meat, guacamole and salsa; not stuffed with fillers like rice and beans, sour cream or lettuce.

Raul’s Shack is located right off the bustling and colorful Highway 101, and it’s an interesting place to sit and chat or people watch. Or, if you’re just hankering for a few tacos after an invigorating swim, it’s the right spot to get your fix.
