VIDEO: At Center of Storm

Blog from Poway:

3:24 p.m.: I live on Standish Drive, which is off of Garden Road. Garden Road
intersects Poway Road,
the neighborhood’s main stretch of businesses, eateries and shops. Also on Poway Road is the Poway Community
Center
, where evacuees are currently being hosted.
I am still at home, and haven’t received any reverse 911 calls indicating a
mandatory evacuation. A few hours back, I heard Mayor Jerry Sanders announcing
an evacuation for Scripps Ranch, and have just been informed by a classmate
that Mira Mesa east of the I-15 has also been evacuated.

There is a bit of ash and cloudiness, with a good amount of
raspy, coarse air around. I see billows of smoke coming up from many mountains
(see video) surrounding the area, though none seem to be within a threatening
range

The wind is still blustering, and it seems no end is in
sight. In the video, you’ll be able to hear the gusts loudly — don’t
underestimate the wind’s force. Gathering that footage from atop a small
mountain was extremely difficult because of the high-force winds. I was even
blown on my ass once; it was that powerful.

4:06 p.m.: I’ve heard that UCSD will be closed for tomorrow,
Oct. 23. Some news reports have mentioned the possibilities of fires reaching
the coastline.

NOTE: All video footage recorded today, between 11 a.m. – 1
p.m.
