Young students visited booths featuring experiments to promote a basic understanding of and interest in the sciences at the Sally Ride Festival on Library Walk. Attendees could ask questions of astronaut Wendy Lawrence and get autographs from Lawrence and Ride, a UCSD professor emeritus as well as an internationally renown female astronaut. “The aim [of the Sally Ride Festival] is to empower and inspire girls to be involved in science, to promote equality in the sciences between boys and girls,”” said Colleen Hackney, the junior events coordinator. The event took place Nov. 19.
