This weekend the UCSD women’s crew will travel back to Lake Natoma, near Sacramento, to compete in the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships. Hosted by the CCSU Sacramento Aquatic Center and the Pac-10 Rowing Conference, this event will include 16 teams from California, Oregon and Washington.
At the PCRCs, UCSD will enter with a seventh place seeding amongst the 12 teams in this competition.
Two weeks ago, the Tritons competed in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Lake Natoma. With results ranging from disappointing to the best in UCSD’s history, this weekend’s regatta should be the definitive moment for this team. Not only will the results determine if the Tritons will continue to the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II Rowing Championships in Indianapolis, May 30 to June 1, but they will showcase the most competitive UCSD boats. Due to multiple illnesses on the Triton team, the seating arrangements from the race two weeks ago were not the final arrangements.
In addition, for the PCRCs, UCSD head coach Patti Pinkerton will merge the varsity and novice boats to form the most viable boats for this competition.
“”I’m excited to row with the varsity rowers,”” said Katie Morris, who will row in the open eight race. “”We can’t wait to compete.””
UCSD will also participate in the collegiate Division II varsity eight, collegiate Division II varsity four, varsity lightweight four, novice lightweight four and novice four races.
Competing this weekend will be local rivals SDSU, and UC counterparts Davis, Berkeley and Los Angeles. Two teams from both Oregon and Washington will compete: University of Washington, Washington State, University of Oregon and Oregon State. The other California teams are Occidental, Stanford, USC, Sonoma State, Long Beach State, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount.
The UCSD men’s crew team will also be racing this weekend. The Tritons will compete at the Avaya Championships in Sacramento. UCSD is coming off of a solid performance at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Finals, where the varsity four won its final.
