Being the nerdy high school journalism kid I was, I collected newspapers from each college I visited. The copy of The UCSD Guardian that I picked up contained that year’s senior send-offs; writing one now, five years later, feels like a full circle moment. Even as my involvement in journalism comes to a close, I will always have a soft spot for student press and seeing our stories in print every week.
There’s something special about having read every piece of writing to have graced our print pages or social media feed. I have edited breaking news stories while in lecture, on Library Walk, and during my apartment’s “Saltburn” viewing. If you noticed an error in The Guardian this year: no, you didn’t. That’s between us.
Thank you, Raymond, Alex, Kaitlin, and Vivian for your leadership and support; to Sonia, for always queueing Chappell for me; to Adalia, for being the powerhouse you are. Thank you, Sophia, Marjorie, Chaz, Kokoro, and my dedicated team of copy readers.
The world is so heavy. Be gentle with each other but relentless in what matters.
(Adalia has informed me that I have 45 more words of space on the layout. They are alternating between playing Tokyo Drift and Coconut Mall while I finish reading through a 4,000-word sports profile, and my adrenaline is surging.)
