Man Dies in Library After Fall from Stairs

UCSD Police were notified of a possible injury around 5 p.m. on Monday and first responders found the man’s body at the bottom of the South Stairwell. A statement released by the Police Department said that the man’s name was being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin. Police do not believe that foul play was involved in the incident or that the man was affiliated with UCSD.

Geisel Library Director of Communications Dolores Davies said that the incident had not disrupted library operations. Geisel Library did not close after the incident, though the stairwell where the man was found did close overnight. According to Davies, the stairwell had reopened on Tuesday. Detective Mike Britton said that the police department would not be available for comment by press time.
