    Web Exclusive: Hancock Preview

You want summer blockbuster? Start with a superhero. Add
alcohol. And throw in one part of this era’s finest black-actor trifecta
(Denzel and Jamie being the others). That’s “Hancock.”

Garnishing the already heated buildup around the film that
advance accounts are calling an oddly mature superhero tale is a big-time
$150-million budget, director Peter Berg fresh from his Mideast
thriller “The Kingdom” and Charlize Theron in her first blockbuster since she
donned a leather one-piece for “Aeon Flux.”

Critics expect to see Hancock, a Los Angeles-based boozer
with superpowers, push the envelope by strapping a ton of star power to a
rocket aimed at Hollywood conventionality. Audiences
will be treated to scenes commonly known as film-breakers. One has Smith as a
bum hitting the bourbon while posting up on the park bench, while another sees
him tossing a brat into the ozone for mouthing off. Not to mention moments of
climactic sexuality between a white woman and black man. Take a guess, then
envision the pure hotness. But political correctness be fucked! If Will does it
on screen, it has to be right. July 2.
