Dear Editor,
Before Jake Blanc gets on his soapbox and tells us the
rousing tale of the “noble exploits of the tree sitters,” he should get some
basic facts right first. Iraqbodycount.org, the premier anti-war Web site
dedicated to tracking civilian casualties during the Iraq war, counts upward of
83,000 documented civilian deaths so far — a little less than the “hundreds of
thousands” Blanc claims have occurred. The war in Iraq has been tragic enough
for Iraqis without Blanc needing to inflate the death toll.
