Ad Policies

    All display ad reservations begin with a phone call to the advertising reservation desk at 858-534-3467.

    The insertion orders must be signed and fax to 858-534-7691 by the deadline to guarantee your ad reservation.

    Space cancellations made strictly by fax or email are not guaranteed.

    All ads are subject to approval. The Guardian reserves the right to refuse advertising which has obscene, sexist, racist, or other content deemed inappropriate by the Guardian. Submission of an advertisement to a Guardian advertising manager does not constitute a commitment by the Guardian to publish the advertisement. Publication of an advertisement does not constitute an agreement for continued publication.

    The Guardian will not be liable for failure to publish an ad as requested or for more than one incorrect insertion of an advertisement. In the event of an error, or omission in printing or publication of an advertisement, the Guardian liability shall be limited to an adjustment for the cost of the space occupied by the error. The business manager must be notified by the advertiser within three business days after receipt of tear sheet for a make good to be considered. Minor spelling errors will not qualify for a make good. Under no circumstances shall the Guardian be liable for consequential damages of any kind.

    All ads are accepted subject to acts of God, fires, strikes, accidents, action of government entity, or other occurrences beyond the Guardian’s control, which prevent the Guardian from partially or completely producing, publishing, or distributing the publication.

    All insertion orders and ad contracts must be used within the 2007 – 2008 academic year. Unfilled insertion orders or ad contracts will be short-rated to the earned frequency rate.

    Artwork

    Copy changes made strictly by fax or email are not guaranteed. Please call 858-534-3466 to discuss any changes.

    The Guardian is not responsible for copy or design changes made by phone.

    Paid political advertisements and advertisements having the appearance of editorial material will be identified as "Paid Advertisement."

    Payment

    The Guardian accepts cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and American Express as payment. Payment in advance is required. Weekly advertisers and certain organizations are eligible to apply for credit with the Guardian. To apply please fill out a credit application; credit approval may take up to six weeks. Please contact the advertising manager to obtain a credit application and any additional information needed.

    The Agent placing the advertisement is solely responsible for prompt payment. Advertiser and/or agent assumes all liability for advertisements published (including illustrations, text, claims, etc.) and agrees to assume any and all responsibility for claims occurring there from against the Guardian.

    Tear sheets and bills are sent at the beginning of the following month. Bills are payable upon presentation and become delinquent after 30 days. Payments more than 60 days overdue will result in revocation of advertising privileges. Delinquent accounts may be forwarded to a collection agency.

    A returned check service charge of $25 will be assessed for any returned check on classified or display advertising.

    Ad Design

    The Guardian art department provides 45 min. of free graphic design time for all ad placements (if needed). For ad designs requiring numerous photo scans and typing of lengthy text, an additional flat fee based on a rate of $40 per hour may be added, contingent on approval of client.

    Ads over 12" in height will be billed for the height of a full page (16").

    Proofs

    Proofs of advertisements will be provided if all ad copy and art are received by the appropriate deadline. All ad copy not received by the deadline will be considered late. We will do our best to accommodate late ad copy; however, the Guardian is not responsible for late proofs or advertisements not revised due to late receipt of information and/or artwork from the advertiser. The advertiser is responsible for the full cost of the advertisement if the artwork is not revised due to late copy. If authorization is dependent on approval of proof beforehand, please specify

    Late Charges
    Any ad reservation, ad copy or electronic file received after the deadline will be subject to a late charge equal to 15% of the ad cost.
    Classified Ads
    Guardian Classified sections are the following: Announcements, Events, Employment, Roommates, For Rent, For Sale, Wanted, Services, Lost and Found, and Personals.

    Cancellation Policy

    Advertisement space reservations must be canceled in writing prior to reservation deadline of the issue in which the ad was to run. Advertisers who cancel space reservation after the deadline are responsible for the full payment of the advertisement.

    Subscriptions

    $38 per quatrer, $100 for academic year.
