The Sri Lankan master mixer is back in vibrant day-glo with her sophomore album, featuring big names Timbaland, Switch and even Three 6 Mafia – and, of course, her always-trusty DJ Diplo, who has struck out on his own as a frequent live act.
Dubbed by M.I.A. as more feminine than debut Arular, Kala is named after her mother (while the former was named after her father) and feels less dominated by controversial politics and dedicated to personal womanly struggles. Since first single “”Boyz”” – as well as highly circulated hits “”Birdflu”” and “”XR2″” – retain M.I.A.’s gritty experimental funk and electronic dance hall, there is no reason to believe that Kala won’t live up to the artist’s smoldering history.
