Just like the best of Conor Oberst’s work, “”Tourist Trap”” runs like the pages of the most brilliantly average diary – this time, a sort of travel journal, scratched with a pencil stub and taped with small souvineers. He leans his temple against the train window (or, more realistically, the tour bus), rushing through cold, barren country to the rhythmic swish of passing telephone poles.
Beams of light do shine through, with swishy aloha guitar and lazy island whistles hinting at lighter vacation days. But not to worry – Oberst never stops pulling heart strings. “”I’m fine,”” he pleads unconvincingly on the final leaked track from upcoming EP Four Winds. “”Still swimming through time/ Afraid some days I’ve reached the shore.”” (SW)
