Items of Immediate Consideration
Item G
The A.S. Council voted to override President Jenn Brown’s veto of the University Centers Expansion and Fee Referendum passed by council last week. The vote of 17-4-0 came after hours of debate over issues of student autonomy, student representation on the Building Advisory Committee and voter comprehension of these issues.
As approved, the referendum will ask students if they support a quarterly $39 per student fee increase that will fund the expansion and renovation of the Price Center and the Student Center. Students will vote on the referendum seventh week, although the fee increase is not scheduled to take effect until fall 2007. The Building Advisory Committee, which will oversee the “”planning, design and construction of the expanded facility,”” will be composed of at least two-thirds students and will be co-chaired by a student.
Item D
The A.S. Council unanimously passed a resolution in support of maintaining freshman resident parking in response to the Transportation and Parking Committee-projected elimination of 1,103 “”S”” parking spaces in the next year. The resolution urged the TPC to explore other compensation measures instead.
Item E
The A.S. Council unanimously approved the reallocation of $72,500 from various programming funds to Sun God. Funds will be drawn from FallFest, Nooners, Concerts, TGs and Comedy and Lecture Series to fund the event.
