Last week, the men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled north to participate in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, a large meet featuring teams and athletes from around the country and world. In total, the meet had over 1,500 participating athletes.
Impressively enough, considering the amount of competition, the Tritons had several finishers in the top 10.
On the women’s side, Audrey Sung’s time of 4:43.36 was enough to give her 10th place in the 1500-meter run out of over 60 participants. Kelly Mimnaugh vaulted 3.05 meters to grab eighth, and Clara Wilson’s jump of 5.47 meters earned her eighth place in the long jump event.
For the men, Jon Wong nabbed fifth place out of 67 competitors in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:53.00. James Nielson ran a 3:51.65 in the 1500-meter run to take eighth place for the Tritons. Rob Ewanio came in tenth in the shotput with a heave of 16.57 meters.
Having tuned up in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, the Tritons will gear up for this weekend, when they travel to Irvine to participate in the California-Nevada Collegiate Championships.
