Man Stabbed Three Times in Mira Mesa

A man was stabbed three times in Mira Mesa on Tuesday night after attempting to fight off four males. San Diego police say the men were trying to steal his gold necklace. The victim was attacked at about 8:35 p.m. after leaving an AM/PM convenience store at Carroll Centre Road, near Kearny Villa Road.

The 21-year-old man was transported to a local hospital, and the four attackers left the scene in a white four-door sedan. They were described as young Asian males in their teens to 20s.

Teacher at the Preuss School UCSD Awarded Einstein Fellowship

Anne Artz, an educator at the Preuss School UCSD, was recently selected as one of 27 K-12 educators nationwide to be a Congressional Fellow for the 2013–2014 Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program. Artz will serve as a representative and promoter for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math — STEM — education for the full academic year.

The program is coordinated by the Triangle Coalition, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. that aims to increase communication between policymakers and the STEM education community.

Man in Wheelchair Dies After Being Hit by Truck

A 70-year-old man in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday night in City Heights, San Diego.

The man was struck by a Ford pickup truck while crossing the street at University Avenue and 36th street. Police identified the truck driver as 46-year-old man. The victim died a few hours later at a hospital, suffering from a broken pelvis and bleeding in the brain.

Student Driver’s Vehicle Struck in Hit-and-Run, Causing Power Outage

A student driver and instructor were involved in a hit-and-run collision after being struck behind Tuesday night in Escondido. The vehicle hit a utility pole in the collision, causing a power outage to the area. The accident was reported around 8:45 p.m. at Broadway and Bahia Lane.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Latino man wearing dark clothing.

The student driver was not injured, and the teacher declined treatment. San Diego Gas & Electric reported 450 locations that lost power. Full restoration was expected by the next morning.

Robbery by Main Campus

A robbery occurred in the 7600 block of Regents Road approximately three miles from campus. Police reported that the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on April 9 and involved four suspects who have allegedly committed a number of other robberies.

The suspects were arrested and are now in jail.
