When I offered to be a substitute writer for the A.S. Column I thought I might be called upon once or twice later in the quarter — I did not expect to be back in the Forum one week later. Nonetheless, I found myself climbing the steps to the fourth floor of PC last night.

Several Councilmembers were sporting Little League-inspired A.S. Council tee-shirts, which I would be jealous of if they weren’t so reminiscent of the Dodgers. Go Giants.

I walked in late (sorry) to a presentation by Helen Kagan on the past Crafts Center and a potential future arts and technology center. Campus-wide Senator Parthu Kalva had an interesting idea of creating an art therapy program for the hoards of UCSD pre-med students at the proposed new arts center.

Continuing with the theme of things for UCSD students to do other than research and studying, UCSD Global Water Brigades presented on their efforts to provide clean water for impoverished communities in developing countries. The Freudian slip of the night was when one of the Water Brigades presenters said, speaking of the volunteers, “They were very Igor… eager! But shoutout to Igor.”

A.S. President Robby Boparai called for a five minute recess without explanation, which was curious to me considering that so many Councilmembers had rush events to attend that Council was in danger of losing Quorum.

In reports of members, AVP Concerts and Events Seraphin Raya reported that 1,500 to 2,000 students attended TritonFest last weekend and that this weekend’s Friday and Saturday nights will feature a Streetside Cinema and a Taco Throwdown, respectively. I know I’ll be there Saturday night.

Muir College Senator Brianne Logasa said that Glacier Point — the study lounge across from Roots for those of you non-Muirons — was renovated by the Muir College Council this past summer.

AVP College Affairs Travis Miller presented language for a Sophomore Class Council, which Council then debated for a solid chunk of the night. Miller said that the council would focus on issues that primarily affect second-year students, such as helping students find off-campus living, off-campus internships and research opportunities, as well as programming, leadership and student advocacy. The language for the pilot program passed 19-0-3.

Final roll call was called before 8:20; not bad, Council, not bad at all.
