5. The Good Wife

While some shows decay after a couple seasons, “The Good Wife” gets better with age. “The Good Wife” chronicles lawyer Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) and her struggles with and against her cheating husband, muddled with the corruption of Chicago. Veering away from a strictly legal drama, the writers marvelously introduce Alicia’s run for State’s Attorney to expand Alicia’s transformation from innocent wife to a fierce leader. The show does not shy away from or overdo complex women such as Alicia or the infamous investigator Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi). Kalinda continues to perplex and delight audiences with her fiery independence and ambiguous morals, while providing a foil to Alicia. The fact that the audience cannot truly understand the characters’ motivations leads to tension and anticipation in every episode. As the cast questions the difference between right and necessary, we can just sit back and enjoy.
