The A.S. Office of Services and Enterprises has joined with the residential life offices of all five colleges to promote student safety and inform students about Triton Taxi’s safe ride program.
A.S. Commissioner of Services and Enterprises Colin Parent gave resident advisors Triton Taxi information and ID card stickers to hand out to students.
“”One of the ideas we had to promote Triton Taxi was to utilize RAs with reaching the freshmen here at UCSD,”” Parent said. “”RAs then can make sure the incoming students learn about how to keep safe and how their representatives are spending their funds.””
The A.S Council also distributed color posters that promote Triton Taxi and its new service to the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego.
“”Any way we have to keep our residents safe is a great service,”” said Nick Lieberknecht, the Muir House Advisor responsible for securing Muir college’s involvement in the project.
In the past, Triton Taxi stickers and waiver forms stating that students understand their responsibilities for using the Triton Taxi service were only available at the A.S. reception desk on the third floor of the Price Center. The A.S. Office of Services and Enterprises hopes wider availability of stickers and forms will extend knowledge of Triton Taxi to the underclassmen, hopefully ensuring the safety of more UCSD students.
Triton Taxi is a free safe ride home program sponsored and managed by The A.S. Council It operates in La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Clairemont, Mission Bay, University City, Mira Mesa and the Gaslamp District. The service provides one free ride home per student, per night between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
The A.S. Office of Services and Enterprises also hopes to expand service to the U.S.-Mexico border.
