On Wednesday UCSD and the athletics department recognized 12 student-athletes for their performances within their sports, the classroom and the community. Founded by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports in 1987, National Student-Athlete Day honors the positive impact that sports and student-athletes have on the community. More than 229,000 student-athletes were honored in 2015 for boasting a GPA above 3.00 (for UCSD, all recipients had above a 3.48) and for their outreach and involvement in the community.
