On Nov. 5, UC San Diego students showed up in substantial crowds to vote in person at the three polling locations available on campus.
The line from the campus voting center in Sun God Lounge at Price Center wrapped around The Trove and stretched past Dirty Birds, nearly reaching the end of the Snake Path in Earl Warren College.
Volunteers associated with the Lawson-Remer campaign offered free pizza to voters in line at the Price Center voting location. A California Public Interest Research Group tabling event on Library Walk featured lively karaoke performances throughout the day, keeping voters entertained during their wait.
At Eleanor Roosevelt College, polls were open on Election Day in Middle Earth Lounge and the Student Activities Center. Students voting in ERC lined up around the center courtyard and surrounded the green, forming a circle that ended near Cafe Ventanas.
Between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., The UCSD Guardian asked students in line about wait times. Some students reported waiting up to three hours.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. on Nov. 5. Any voters in line before the polls closed were allowed to cast their vote, but no more additional people were allowed to join the line thereafter.
UCSD’s campus voting centers in the Middle East Lounge in ERC and Price Center were open from Oct. 26 through Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. These two centers and an additional center in the Student Activities Center in ERC were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 for Election Day.
