10. The Lego Movie

A refreshing blend of childhood nostalgia and originality, “The Lego Movie” succeeds at building off everyone’s favorite brick. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“21 Jump Street”) developed a script that was clever while remaining poignant. The trope-laden story of good versus evil becomes the perfect recipe for lots of Lego laughs, since nothing was taken too seriously. One of the best voice casts in recent memory breathes life into these miniature figures while Chris Pratt, as the “Special” Emmet, proves that his charm alone could carry a film. The fully immersive Lego world complete with infectious pop music and superficial TV programs drew us in, and we did not want to leave. It was the kind of adventure that made kids and adults alike wish they could break out their toys.
