The San Diego Association of Governments and the San Diego Metropolian Transit System are currently finalizing plans for SuperLoop ‘mdash; a new hybrid high-speed bus service that will serve the UCSD campus and North University City by fall 2010.
SuperLoop is meant to improve traffic by signaling prioritization, queuing jumper lanes and adding special road markers that allow SuperLoop vehicles to move through traffic faster than traditional buses.
These low-emission, gasoline-electric vehicles will accommodate 29 people in seats, with standing room for others.
SuperLoop’s 8-mile circulatory route will operate seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. every 10 minutes on weekdays and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every 15 minutes on weekends and holidays. Routes 201 and 202 will operate between Westfield Shoppingtown UTC and UCSD with stops at Genesee Avenue, Nobel Drive, Gilman Drive and Voigt Drive.
