Baseball Splits Home and Away Series

UCSD 2, CSU San Bernardino 3

            In the first game of the four game series on Thursday, April 19, senior pitcher Tony York picked up his first loss of the season.

No. 29 Tritons Best Dominguez 3-1 in Weekend Series

The Tritons moved back into the national rankings this week after taking three of their four games against CSU Dominguez Hills.

Top of the Conference

After an overhaul of the Triton coaching staff, which saw 14-year tenured head coach Dan O’Brien’s departure for a coaching position at Division I Santa Clara, UCSD logged a sluggish start to the 2012 campaign. The Tritons quickly dropped out of the national rankings after suffering losses to West Region rivals Western Oregon and formerly No. 10 nationally ranked Chico State.

Athlete Spotlight: Tim Shibuya

UCSD graduate Tim Shibuya continues to impress on the mound. The two-time All-American, 2011 West Region Pitcher of the Year was picked by the Twins in the 23rd round of the First-Year Player Draft upon graduation in 2011.

Tritons Split Against CSU East Bay

    The Tritons battled throughout the game, culminating in a big three run homer off the bat of first baseman Richard Siegel in the fourth inning.

Baseball Splits in Series Against Cal Poly Pomona

UCSD 5, Pomona 10

UCSD started strong with a solid first inning as sophomore catcher Nick LaFace bombed one to leftfield, putting the Tritons up 1-0. The Broncos came back in the bottom of the inning with three hits for two runs. The Broncos stayed up for the rest of the game despite a rally in the top of the sixth, when UCSD junior infielder Sam Michaels singled to right and was batted in off sophomore Scott Liske’s first homerun.

Baseball Fall 1-3 at Colorado Mesa

           Senior pitcher Jeff Rauh opened well for the Tritons, giving up just two runs in the first four innings of play.

Staying Hot

Winners of 17 straight games, the Tritons wrapped up their third consecutive regular season conference title this past weekend.

Big Weekend Ahead for Track and Baseball

The UCSD track and field team will travel to Cal State Stanislaus for the CCAA Championships this weekend in hopes of continuing its record-setting performance from last year. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished second last season, which was the highest ever on the men’s side.
